Training ~

At the Head Office in Birmingham ESG run a “Skills for Security” (formely known as SITO) approved Training Centre where we train all our guarding staff. Our facilities are “state of the art” and training is conducted using the latest IT technology. While at the Centre trainees and recruits are housed and fed in company owned accommodation.

Induction Training ~

Training consists of a comprehensive induction package governed by the National Security Inspectorate, the industry’s self regulatory body. The course lasts 5 days which we recognize is longer than the SIA requirement, we feel ESG recruits deserve more detailed training and preparation for their new chosen career. Training is examined to NVQ Level 2 and covers all aspects of security including:

  • Introduction to First Aid
  • Fire Fighting Skills
  • Patrolling
  • Profiling of Potential Offenders
  • Police Liaison

  • Rules of Arrest and Apprehension
  • Communication Skills
  • Conflict Management
  • Introduction to Health and Safety at Work Issues
  • Introduction to Environmental Awareness

Additional Training ~

Following the Induction Training each new Officer receives additional training on duties specific to their respective site; this also covers the particular Assignment Instructions and Risk Analysis / Assessment for our guarding sites. It is conducted by the Officers’ Supervisors (our Security Managers or Contract Managers) or Training Managers. The Officers are then mentored by their respective Supervisor and Training Manager for the first 6 months of their career with ESG.

For those officers deployed to sites or roles that require additional training and licenses we can carry out the prerequisite training in the following disciplines:

  • CCTV PSS
  • Door Supervisor

Further Training ~

First Aid Skills Course: ESG Security Officers can also undertake an additional and more detailed course in First Aid Skills which leads to further qualifications. Should our clients require their Officers to be trained in this additional package we can put them through the course which lasts another 5 days.

Customer Service Training: At ESG we believe that customer care is also at the forefront of security provision and it is important that our Security Officers reflect the levels of professionalism, courtesy and efficiency that our clients would expect from their own staff. With this important factor in mind, we offer many of our Officers the chance to undertake a Customer Service Course. This is run in conjunction with the National Learning and Skills Council and is aimed at NVQ Level 2. This course is free to the Security Officers and is part of a value added benefit to our clients.

Continued Professional Development ~

As the scope and importance of security work continues to grow, it is essential that ESG Security Officers continue to develop and expand their range of personal and professional skills. The Management Team at ESG is therefore looking at new initiatives, in consultation with Skills for Security, such as introducing a Security Practitioner Workplace Programme and Assessment and a new Security Officer Training Qualification aimed at NVQ Level 3. This will help in “refresher training” and career development for our experienced security staff.
