Our planet is very individual, and the environment we leave behind is the legacy our children will inherit. Whether you are in agreement with the global warning media sensation or not, you cannot deny that protecting our recourses can only benefit us.
Although certain things may individually appear to be of little consequence, if everyone works together, the collective effort can be staggering.
If you take an example of office lights; ensuring that the lights in your office are switched off after work. This may only save £2 worth of energy each week. But if 10 offices in your building do the same, collectively that building is already saving £20 per week. Multiply that by 20 000 office blocks it equates to £400,000 a week which annually exceeds £20 million pounds. This is not only a saving for the country’s economy but would start making a substantial impact on our carbon footprint. All from switching off a few lights!
This principle can of course be applied to all of the basics we use every day from paper & water to fuel and waste management.
How can you help: As can be seen from the illustration above, every little helps. Be aware at home and work, wastage like leaking taps/pipes,
computers left running over weekends can mount up. Recycle what you can, reducing landfill and saving on imported raw materials. Even issues like paper; does it come from sustainable forests, and is not decimating our natural forests which are in effect the earth’s lungs, producing the oxygen we require to survive? At home we can educate our children; at work bring forward ideas and suggestions and pass them onto your line manager or client, the starting point is “AWARENESS”.
Remember that the environment in which we live is a moral obligation we all have.

The EFM Group, Boultbee’s property management company, has restructured to better meet the needs of its ever-growing international portfolio.
As a result of the restructuring process, EFM Security has been sold today (21st May 2007) to Birmingham based Elite Security Guarding Services Ltd to allow the EFM Group to focus on the core business of asset management, facilities management and construction.
David Revill, Managing Director of EFM, explains: “Whilst we have been pleased with the development of EFM Security, we now feel that Security does not fit in comfortably with the overall EFM Group. With an increasing international portfolio we need all of our divisions to be instantly transferable between countries, and unfortunately whilst EFM Security is an established provider in the UK market it is more challenging to export.
“The EFM Security team and its contracts will be transferred to Elite Security which will continue to provide our former clients with a highly skilled team of retail and office security personnel. The EFM Security name and brand will also transfer with the sale of the business, but will no longer be connected to the overall EFM group.”
David Hoey, Managing Director of Elite Security, added: “This is an ideal time to acquire a major shopping centre security specialist such as EFM Security. With its portfolio of approximately 20 shopping centres and over 100 highly trained and motivated security guards, EFM Security will dovetail perfectly into our business.
“We intend to expand upon EFM Security’s enviable record in shopping centre security with the support of our existing workforce and management team. Combined with our wealth of security experience, everyone from the end user to the customer will see the benefit of having a dynamic and professional security provider.”

Elite are the now holders of BS7984:2001 Standards for Key Holding.
Customers' keys are kept within the Elite Control Room on the key tracker system. The keys are kept in a secure cabinet and all key movements are monitored stringently, ensuring no breeches of security take place. Once taken out of the control room the keys are secured in the mobile vehicle which is attending the activation. Having no markings, just number coded, if the keys are lost or stolen the customers' name is not identified, causing no breach of security.
The Mobile Sergeant attending the activation will hold the assignment instructions for the premises and knows exactly what to do upon arrival at the site. The security Sergeant will make a thorough external check of the premises and report findings to Elite Control. The Security Officer will then enter the building and check internally, again contacting Control, and the alarm engineer will be contacted if the alarm cannot be set by the Security Officer on site.
